Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Care At Home

What is it?

Motor neurone disease (MND) is an uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves. It is caused by a problem with motor neurones (which are brain and nerve cells) that gradually stop working. Over time, these cells slowly lose their function, and the disease progressively worsens. The cause of this is still unknown. 

There is no cure at the present time, however, there are treatments available that can reduce the impact on people living with the disease.  

Although it can affect adults of various ages, motor neurone disease is a rare condition that primarily affects individuals in their 60s and 70s. 

Moving, swallowing, and breathing become more challenging, requiring treatments such as a feeding tube or breathing through a face mask.
